Yes, Mexican Rednee tarantulas use mimicry. They do this to scare off potential predators, and to make themselves appear a lot bigger than what they actually are. Best to keep your distance from them when they go into a threatened pose like that. You don't want to stress them out any more than what they already are and you definitely don't want to get bit.
