There's lots of different types of reptiles that can go in a 40 gallon tank. Poison dart frogs, long tail grass lizards, orange sided skinks and viper geckos are all suitable reptiles that can live in that size of tank. Whichever reptile you put inside should be appropriately sized for the 40 gallon tank ideally unless you plan on putting them in a bigger one later on as they grow.
