Being flashy helps the male guppy attract more females, this is a form of sexual selection where the more colorful the male is, the more likely it is that he will find a mate and reproduce, the genes that he has are passed onwards to his offspring and the most colorful offspring he has reproduces while the not so colorful offspring is eventually bred out.
