Yes, guppies may need a heater in order to survive, they will need one especially if the water temperature drops below 68 degrees Fahrenheit, they don't do well in cold water temperatures. The water temperature for guppies should be within the 70s and not be too volatile, an inconsistent water temperature only stresses them out.
