The exact numbers of crested geckos left in the wild are unknown as there isn't much reporting on this, however they probably aren't a dime a dozen many because they are considered vulnerable by the conservation status. Reasons for this include habitat loss, excessive predation by domestic pets (cats) as well as the introduction of the fire ant. (Source)
