Yes, you can have a piranha as a pet in most areas. I would check with your local guidelines though as it may be different where you live.

Yes, in most areas, you're allowed to own piranhas as pets, but like @Zach K said, it depends on where you reside. In some areas you aren't allowed to own any, mostly in the southern parts of the United States. Probably because they are worried about people releasing them into the wild would be my guess.

Piranhas can be vicious and the states that outlaw them definitely don't want them to become invasive. Florida has outlawed Piranhas because they don't want them to become invasive which makes perfect sense. That would impact their states tourism.
