Yes, tarantulas do bite, they will do so when they are threatened or are stressed out. Tarantulas are pretty docile and don't bite unless provoked, rough handling can cause them to bite you, and that's the case for most tarantula bites. A bite from a tarantula is like getting stung by a bee, not fun, but it won't kill you unless you have some sort of severe allergic reaction. 

In most scenarios, you'll be good.
