King snakes are not poisonous, they will only bite to protect themselves. The best way to protect yourself if to make sure you don't startle your king snake when you go to pick it up.

No, king snakes aren't poisonous snakes. Their first line of defense is to bite, but they won't inject any venom into you. Like @John447 said, you should just make sure that you go slow and don't startle them when you go to pick them up.
