When you get a new ball python, it will take some time for your new snake to get fully settled in. You don't want to handle your new ball python for around 1-2 weeks, you also want to make sure that they're eating, after these to conditions are met you can then start to handle your new ball python. 

Before all of this you should ensure that the enclosure is all set up, with all the appropriate items like a water dish, thermometer, hygrometer, soft substrate, lights and a supply of frozen rodents that they are able to eat.
