The two most common causes of RI in ball pythons are too high of humidity and incorrect temperatures. The humidity level should never reach above 70% for extended periods of time, the level it should be at is between 40-60%, there should also be a dip in humidity so that it isn't always humid. 

Too high of temperatures also contribute to RI development in ball pythons, too low can also cause similar problems. The normal temperature should be  80 - 85 degrees, the basking area should be around 90-92 degrees. (Source)
