No, it doesn't hurt to hold a hedgehog at all, it may be a tiny bit uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt. You just have to be careful when they go into a ball, you don't want your finger getting squeezed by them as this will be somewhat painful to you. Most of the time a hedgehog is unable to poke you bad enough to the point to where you start bleeding, so you should be good. (Source)

Nope, it doesn't hurt to hold a hedgehog unless they curl up into a ball, if they do that, then that could potentially be a little bit painful, but really nothing that hurts too bad. The majority of the time a hedgehog is unable to puncture your skin to make you bleed.
