Yes, hedgehogs are prickly, their bodies are covered in these spines called quills. These quills are quite prickly to the touch, and it takes some getting used to if you want to handle hedgehogs. Hedgehogs have around 3,000 - 5,000 quills on their backs, they use them to protect themselves from predators.
