Your crested gecko won't let you hold him because he isn't comfortable around you. You should make sure that you build some familiarity with him before you go and handle him, otherwise you risk causing him to loose his tail due to excessive stress and fear. One way to build familiarity with your crested gecko is to feed him from your hands first, that's a good stepping stone to getting him to be ok with you holding him.
