Depends, hamsters sometimes do better in pairs, every hamster is different, but generally speaking hamsters do best on their own and are solitary creatures. Dwarf hamsters are better at being housed together than say Syrian and Chinese hamsters. If you have the option of not housing hamsters together that would probably be a safer bet as they can sometimes get aggressive.
