No, calcium sand isn't safe for hamsters, they could potentially experience intestinal blockage from accidently ingesting the sand, this is also known as impaction which really isn't good at all for hamsters or any pet. Impaction can lead to early death and a decrease in happiness for your hamster.

Hamster bedding should include paper-based shedding. This will make your hamsters a lot happier and healthier overtime due to impaction no longer being as big of a threat.
