Yes, hamsters do hibernate, in captivity it is rare for hamsters to hibernate but it still does happen, according to a blog post on petmd.com, hamsters will hibernate when the temperature around them is really low, this causes them to go into a state of preserving themselves and their food, just like if it were the winter.

To prevent hamsters from hibernating you should keep them in temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, it's also good to handle your hamster every once and a while as well.
