You're going to want to handle your crested gecko not too far away from the ground so if your gecko jumps off your hands, the damage to the crested gecko is minimal if he/she jumps off.

You'll also want to secure the room and make sure there are no other pets around, dogs and cats are the first to come to mind. Eventually you'll get used to it and so will your crested gecko after a while.
